Liposculpture FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions)
Due to the fact that there are a lot of questions that people ask about liposculpture surgery, it is a good idea to recap the more common ones. Liposculpture has been growing in popularity and more people these days are asking questions about the technique to help them lose some weight and have a more toned body. People that exercise, eat healthy, and cannot seem to lose weight, liposculpture can be a procedure that works well to help people get their desired result. So let’s start by reviewing some of the more common questions.
It is a procedure that removes fat from the body through small incisions. When the incisions are made, a licensed surgeon will inserts tubes into the incisions and literally sucks fat out of your body. The tubes are referred to professionally as “cannulas.” Techniques like Vaser liposculpture and Tumescent liposculpture are slightly different methods that are utilized.
Who Should Get Liposculpture?
Liposculpture is ideal for people that just cannot seem to get to their ideal weight through diet and exercise. If it seems like you have tried all of your other options and the weight is too difficult to lose, then you may want to consult a liposculpture specialist and ask some questions. Most people don’t have more than 25 pounds removed during this procedure; in fact most end up losing between 5 and 15 pounds as a result of the procedure.
Who Are Ideal Liposculpture Candidates?
Ideal liposculpture candidates are people that want to lose 25 pounds or less in order to tone their body and look more fit. In most cases, you must be over 18 years of age to get liposculpture surgery and you must not have any major medical problems. Most liposculpture surgeons will be able to determine whether you are eligible for this type of surgery. Many people are eligible, so your chances are good, but don’t be discouraged if a doctor recommends that you stay away from this surgery.
Which Areas of My Body Can Get Liposculpture?
Liposculpture can be done on various areas of your body, including your stomach area, arms, abdominals, buttocks, legs, ankles, waist, hips, face (chin, cheeks, etc.), and your back. If you aren’t sure as to whether you will be able to get liposculpture in a certain area of your body, then it would be a good idea to consult a surgeon; they will be able to tell you whether it would be recommended.
Are There Different Types of Liposculpture Procedures?
Yes. There are several types of liposculpture procedures that professionals can use. A couple of the more common techniques include: Ultrasonic (or Vaser) and Tumescent – which involves swelling. Different surgeons specialize in different techniques and different types of techniques may work better for certain patients. If you have a preference for a certain technique to be used, you should speak with a licensed plastic surgeon and ask more questions to find out more. The goal of each procedure is to remove fat from certain areas on the body.
Where Can I Find A Good Liposculpture Surgeon?
Anytime you are looking for a plastic surgeon, it would be a good idea to search the internet and your local listings. Reading reviews from people that have already gotten liposculpture is a good idea as well; you want to make sure that others are satisfied with a certain surgeon before you pay for liposculpture. There are also some questions that you will want to ask to a plastic surgeon to find out if he/she is right for you.
A few common questions to consider include:
*How experienced are you with liposculpture?
*Can you show me some before and after pictures?
*How many liposculpture surgeries have you performed?
If you are not comfortable with the responses that you are given to these basic questions, it would be in your best interest to find another surgeon. There are plenty of good plastic surgeons to choose from, so don’t think that there won’t be another option if you have already consulted one. Meet with a few more surgeons and choose to work with the one that you like best and that has gotten positive feedback from other people that got liposculpture surgery.
Will My Insurance Provider Cover Liposculpture Costs?
No. Liposculpture is not covered by insurance companies due to the fact that it is considered “cosmetic surgery” – insurance companies do not pick up costs of cosmetic surgeries. A lot of people think that they will be able to have their insurance pick up the cost of this type of surgery and are disappointed to find out that this is not the case. Make sure that you know that you will need to finance the surgery without the help of your insurance provider.
How Expensive is Liposculpture?
Well, liposculpture can cost from $1000 to $10000 – but there are a lot of factors that may increase or decrease the price. For example, if you are getting very minimal liposculpture in an area of the body where it is easier to perform, it may be a lot cheaper. However, if you are getting a lot of fat removed in an area of the body that takes longer to work with, it may be expensive. Prices may also vary among liposculpture surgeons; more experienced professionals tend to charge more because they have more experience and more positive testimonials.
The nice thing is that most doctors specializing in liposculpture will allow you to meet with them and discuss things for free. If you are genuinely interested in the procedure, look for a doctor in your area and schedule a consultation. Some of the busier liposculpture surgeons may charge money for consultations, so be sure to ask about this if you are concerned about paying a consultation fee.
How Many Liposculpture Treatments Are Required?
It really depends on the person, but most of the time, only one liposculpture treatment is needed. Some liposculpture doctors will do a “tone up” after the surgery if you need it. However, in most cases, people do not need “tone ups” and will be satisfied after one surgery. Obviously if you are getting liposculpture on different parts of your body, you may need to come in for multiple treatments.
There are certain people that want to get liposculpture done on multiple parts of their body (e.g. arms and stomach). If you want to get it done in multiple places, it would be a good idea to ask the surgeon performing the procedure whether he/she will perform liposculpture in both areas during one surgery or whether multiple surgeries need to be scheduled.
How Long Before I See Results From Liposculpture Surgery?
Most individuals that have gotten this type of surgery will see results immediately after they finish surgery. However, some people may not see the results immediately if the tissue and skin is swollen; in this case the area may look fatter due to all of the swelling. Your doctor will be able to tell you what you should expect; each person is different and is going to have a different experience. It may take a few days in some cases for people to see good results – but in most cases, as long as the swelling goes down, you will see results fairly quickly following surgery (e.g. usually within a few weeks of surgery).
Can I Go Home After Liposculpture Surgery?
Yes. Liposculpture does not require you to stay overnight in the hospital or medical facility in which it is performed. One of the reasons that people really like liposculpture is because you don’t need to worry about spending the night in the hospital and you can recover back in the comfort of your own home and company. People that get liposculpture will be able to go home the exact same day that the surgery is performed.
With that said, you will need someone to help you getting yourself back home after the surgery. Generally, someone else (e.g. a family member or friend) will drive the liposculpture patient back to their home after surgery is done. It is not recommended that you drive for a few days after your liposculpture surgery.
How Much Time Off Work Should I Take After Liposculpture?
It is recommended to take at least 2 to 5 days off of work after your liposculpture surgery. Obviously some people are going to have a quicker recovery than others, so it is in your best interest to ask your doctor about how much time he recommends taking off. If you heal very quickly and are not experiencing any pain or irritation in the area in which the surgery was performed, you may be able to return to your work in a short amount of time. The recovery time isn’t as long as most people think; which is why this surgery is a popular choice.
Should I Exercise After Liposculpture?
Yes, but not immediately after the procedure. Your doctor will want you to rest for awhile until the area of your body that had the liposculpture is able to fully recover. After you have recovered, it is smart to exercise and eat a proper diet. Making sure that you exercise and eat healthy will help preserve the results of your liposculpture. People can gain weight back that they had removed during this type of surgery, so in order to prevent gaining it back, you should be getting adequate physical exercise.
